Project Description

As a practicum student my involvement was in in supporting the planning and implementation of the Blue Quills University Knowledge Gathering event. This will include helping with marketing, developing Indigenous resource materials (protocols, ceremonies, medicine) for participants and using data collected to write a final report. This will also include working on dissemination plans to share learning from the event.

This project meant working with people at Blue Quills University to ensure that any items that were used to promote or plan the event used appropriate terminology and had accurate information. Many hours of research went into exploring the different Indigenous communities within the province, the different dialects of language and customs, traditions and protocols for various groups.

The agency for my practicum is Mount Royal University, some of the faculty at MRU and Bow Valley College along with BQU organized and advertised the Knowledge Gathering weekend. The weekend is another step towards reconciliation (or rather reconciliaction), decolonization and Indigenization of educators within the province of Alberta.
