Tanya Benoit
My name is Tanya Benoit and I am the descendent of white settlers and Metis ancestors, the process of researching my family history has brought me closer to discovering who I am and who I come from. In the past 4 years I have gained my diploma as an Early Childhood Educator, and started a new adventure at Mount Royal University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in child studies with an early learning major and Indigenous studies minor.
I am mother to two biologically male children who keep me on my toes with their curiosity and enthusiasm for knowledge and gaming. I have been married since 2004 and currently own two dogs who seem to think they’re cats. I have lived in and around Calgary my entire life and have only been off the continent twice. I am a life-long learner and truly enjoy sharing the knowledge and teachings I have experienced over the years.
For our Leadership practicum we each chose a commitment word to bind ourselves to for the duration of the class. Mine was Transparency – “easily seen through, recognized or detected” or “being open; frank; candid” Transparent Definition & Meaning | Dictionary.com.
For me being transparent means you get what you see, and if I’m being too much then you’re more than welcome to go find someone who can offer less. I have always taken on a leadership style that shows my team who I really am so that there’s nothing hidden, they know I trust them and they can trust me.
